Chrysalis ensemble
(for the school year 2017-2018, Chrysalis will be combined with crossflame)
Welcome to an exciting new ensemble at St. Luke’s! Chrysalis offers an opportunity for 6th and 7th graders from throughout our community to develop musically and spiritually, while building friendships that will last a lifetime. It is open without audition to any 6th or 7th grader who wishes to join.
Why create the Chrysalis ensemble?
As 6th and 7th graders, your voices are changing whether you be male or female. Boys especially need to sing music that allows you to go through this change with a minimum of difficulty. Boys will feel less need to sing “out of their range” with the older guys. You are at a prime time to learn new skills that can be easily taught at your age. We will do more age appropriate vocal training with your group than we can do when you are combined with older youth. We also will teach you to read music with greater skill. In Chrysalis, you will be allowed and encouraged to develop leadership traits that you would not be able to develop for several years as a member of a 6th-12th choir. In Chrysalis, you will have more opportunity to “shine” since you will not be competing with 12th graders for prime solo and speaking parts.
Why do you call it Chrysalis?
A butterfly in the chrysalis stage is in the process of becoming a new, beautiful creation… As a “tween,” so are you. Changing, developing, growing, getting ready to sprout wings and fly… that is you.
What are rehearsal times?
We will rehearse choir on Monday afternoons from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Electives including Drama and Art will be from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.
Will we tour with Crossflame?
Chrysalis will have its own tour each year! This year, we will go to Black Mountain, NC to participate in a youth choir weekend event. Those dates are May 30-June 1, 2014.
Will we sing for worship and do outreach activities?
Yes, we certainly will!
