About the Choir

CROSSFLAME began in the summer of 1996 as a joint project of the music ministry and the youth ministry of St. Luke's UMC. Our idea was to create a youth choir that would complement our existing UMYF ministry and build on its successes. Additionally, the choir would offer a new entry point to St. Luke's for youth who could relate more easily to music than to a structured youth program. We especially hoped that Crossflame would help us reach youth in our community that were unchurched. Our initial choir of 24 has grown to 2 choirs of about 90 teenagers and is led by church staff and volunteers. Crossflame ministries consist of 6th-12th graders from several different schools in our area. Many are members of our church, though we have many who are members of other churches or are part of no faith community in our community. We have a variety of instrumentalists that also travel with our groups. The Crossflame choir tours annually in June.
